Premier League Top Spendings (Last 10 Years)
Premier League clubs are dominating the transfer windows every year. The other leagues like LaLiga, Ligue 1, Serie A, and Bundesliga have two or three clubs in each league, which puts a huge amount to sign big guns, but the Premier League has seven to eight clubs that put big amount of money. This brings more interest for fans to see their favourite players on the pitch and more investors in the league. Which is also the key reason for league success in broadcasting rights, shirt sales, social media interactions, etc.
Premier League clubs have sent more money than any other league clubs. From 2016 to 2025 seasons Top 10 clubs all over the world with the most expenditures, 6 of them are from the Premier League. Did these huge huge amount of money really pay off?

Chelsea
Chelsea has been criticised for investing so much money in the transfer window, and their results didn't pay off, as they have spent €2.75 bn from 2016 to 2025, which makes Chelsea the biggest spending club last 10 years. They signed the biggest players in almost every season in the last 10 years. But they have won 7 major trophies.
- Premier League (1): 2016–17 (Antonio Conte’s record-breaking title win)
- UEFA Europa League (1): 2018–19
- UEFA Champions League (1): 2020–21
- UEFA Super Cup (1): 2021
- UEFA Conference League (1): 2024–25
- FIFA Club World Cup (2): 2021, 2025
Manchester United
The same thing is with Manchester United put the biggest amount in the last decade but comes up with no results, as they have spent €1.88bn and they are third in the list. Manchester United is one of the most famous clubs in the Premier League. Huge fan base and one of the decorated clubs early this century. But now it does look like that in past ten years.
Manchester United has won 5 major titles in the last 10 years, but no Premier League or UEFA Champions League titles. They have the same issue as some other Premier League clubs is their weak Youth Development system. After Sir Alex Ferguson's ERA, Manchester United has suffered a lot to manage to hold trophies same issue is still goin ong. Too early to predict their standing Premier League at the end of this season, but one thing is clear will not be able to finish in the Top 5. Last year, Manchester United was very close to relegation from the Premier League.
- Carabao Cup (1): 2017 , 2022
- UEFA Europa League (1): 2016–17
- FA Community Shield (1): 2017
- FA Cup: 2023
Manchester City
Manchester City is also very dominant in this race, but Pep's plans and squad combinations really paid off. Manchester City wins the treble under Pep Guardiola, one of three managers ever to do so. Pep joined City on 1 February 2016. Since then, Manchester City has spent €1.96bn, and they are second in the list, but at the top of they have won 17 Trophies.
- UEFA Champions League (1): 2022–23 (City’s first ever UCL trophy)
- UEFA Super Cup (1): 2023
- FIFA Club World Cup (1): 2023
Arsenal
Arsenal has had one of the most promising performances in the Premier League in the past few years. But they have been unable to manage to win any major trophy in the past 10 years, even after spending €1.58bn to buy players. They just managed to win 2 FA Cups and 3 FA Community Shields. No Premier League title, no UEFA Competitions Trophy. But this year, Arsenal are showing some guns in the Premier League and even the UEFA Champions League. Their last win against Bayern Munich gave the team more confidence.
Arsenal's approach to buy players and sell one of the most appreciated by Football fans and media. They are looking like well well-organised, well-balanced team than their previous 3 seasons. Mikel Arteta has brought exactly the perfect player who can perfectly adjust to their squad. Their approach is much better than their past few years. It looks like and is predicted by football journalists and analysts that if they are able to maintain their approach till mid-February, they will be crowned with the Premier League title.
Liverpool
Liverpool has spent €1.47bn in the last 10 years, as it is 7th in the list. Liverpool's most spent was in 2025 €482.90 million, which is 33% of their expenditures in the last 10 years spent in one single season, as Arne Slot has spent a serious amount, but it does look like the amount will be able to pay off.
Liverpool also holds the record for the biggest sale of Premier League history. In the 2017/18 season, Liverpool sold Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho to LaLiga club FC Barcelona for €135 million. In the 2022/23 season, Liverpool brought in Darwin Núñez from Benfica for €85 million, won the Premier League in the Liverpool in 2024/25 season, looking very well adjusted in the squad, but then in the transfer window, he was sold to Saudi Pro League (SPL) club Al-Hilal for €53 million.
Liverpool really dominated from 2018 to 2020, in all competitions under Jürgen Klopp, as compared to the other 8 years are not much. Liverpool has won 7 major trophies in the last 10 years.
- Premier League (2): 2019-20, 2024-25
- Carabao Cup (2): 2019-20, 2024-25
- FA Cup: (1)
- UEFA Champions League (1): 2018-19
- FIFA Club World Cup (1): 2019
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur is a whole other case; they are ninth in the list, and their performance was dramatically too low. Spurs have spent €1.41bn in the last 10 years, but they have won just 1 Trophy in 2024-25, which was 17 years after Tottenham Hotspur won. But the club management was thinking something else. They let coach Ange Postecoglou go, who helped them achieve their dream, and their team captain Son Heung-min was also sold to MSL club LAFC for €22 million. Now they are standing in 9th position in the Premier League. Asper team chemistry, it does not look like they would be able to qualify for any UEFA Competition after this season.

Verdict
Premier League clubs have sent more money than any other league clubs. From 2016 to 2025 seasons Top 10 clubs all over the world with the most expenditures are 6, which are from the Premier League, in which Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are not part of it. This clearly shows that putting a lot of money into the transfer market is not everything. Sometimes it's great to find the best players for your squad that fit very well, so money could pay off. But not in the case of Premier League clubs, they always tried to bring big guns to attract more club fans and investors, not the best match players for their squads.
The best examples of these cases in the last decades from the Premier League are Romelu Lukaku, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Paul Pogba, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Harry Maguire, Joao Cancelo, Benjamin Mendy, Nicolas Pépé, Kai Havertz, Tanguy Ndombele, Gylfi Sigurðsson, and Naby Keïta.
